ATOMIC BASICS Partner Talk Review Discuss the questions that follow with your ELBOW PARTNER.

What is the rule for attraction/repulsion of electric charges? Apply this to protons and electrons.

Charge: positive, negative, or neutral Mass: 0 or 1 What is the mass, charge, and location of: 1. A proton 2. A neutron 3. An electron Charge: positive, negative, or neutral Mass: 0 or 1

Proton, Neutron, or Electron? Decides how an atom will get along with other atoms (its chemical properties) Determines what element an atom is Last of the three to be discovered

FOR AN ISOTOPE: Which (P, N, and/or e-) is the same FOR AN ISOTOPE: Which (P, N, and/or e-) is the same? Which (P, N, and/or e-) is different? How do you name it?

Atomic Math Explain how to use atomic number and atomic mass/mass number to determine: # of protons # of neutrons # of electrons What element something is What the most common isotope is

Behavior Expectations: NO TALKING. If you have a question, ASK ME not your neighbor. Cover your test with your whiteboard when possible. Do your best!!! Take your time. You can finish in APP if needed. COVER UP YOUR TEST and quietly go CHOOSE A PUZZLE or READ until Mrs. Johnson lets you know everyone is finished.

WRAPPING UP: 3 piles at your table: QUESTIONS, PERIODIC TABLES, ANSWER SHEETS  bring them to the tray Keep your PUZZLES in your FOLDERS. (Completed puzzles = candy) Whiteboards back in tables Pack your FOLDERS.
