Why do I need to read the Odyssey?

Reason #1: The epic poem is a classic, and there is certainly merit to studying ancient literature. WHY?

Reason #2 A knowledge of Greek literature will leave you capable of understanding many references (allusions)! MUSIC Films Other literature Art

Reason #3: The Odyssey explores the most important ideas in Greek literature: The Gods The Trojan War Greek myths Divine Interference Fate

Reason #4: The Odyssey teaches you about an ancient culture. What did the Greeks value? What qualities did epic heroes have? Did Odysseus possess all of these qualities?

Reason #5: Students need to be exposed to a varied curriculum. WHY?

And finally, REASON #6 The Odyssey is entertaining! Who would not want to read about: Epic heroes? Divine interference? Monsters? Revenge? True love?
