eclipses

Good Morning  1. Get your notebook and add Assignment 5: Eclipses to you table of contents. Add Assignment 5 to your next available page, as well. 3. Write and answer the questions from the board in your notebook. Use complete sentences. 4. Read until everyone is ready. You may take and AR test, if you need to do so.

Eclipses occur when one body of the Earth, Sun, and Moon system blocks light by coming in between the other two bodies.

Solar eclipses occur when the Moon is between Earth and the Sun (new moon) and is aligned to block the view of the Sun from Earth.

Lunar eclipses occur when Earth is between the Moon and the Sun (full moon) and is aligned to block the light from the Sun to shine on the Moon as viewed from Earth.

Blue moon – the second of two full moons occurring in the same month

Blood moon – the moon as it appears during a total lunar eclipse

Eclipse Activity

Write the following questions in your notebook and answer them in complete sentences. 1. Do more people see a solar eclipse or a lunar eclipse? 2. What type of eclipse could we see during a full moon? A new moon? 3. Why do we see a full moon more often than we see an eclipse?
