LIVINGSTON MIDDLE SCHOOL: ATHLETICS HOME OF THE COUGARS

Purpose of Athletics at LMS The purpose of the athletic program at Livingston Middle School is to encourage the development of healthy bodies, sportsmanship and experience in teamwork. We take pride in preparing our student athletes for the next level of play.

LMS • EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Livingston Middle is the proud home of 884 students. 441 females and 443 males There are several before and after school clubs and opportunities in which students can participate. Athletics is the largest serving extracurricular activity on campus.

Eligibility Academic Requirement - Students must maintain a 2.0 grade point average with no F grade. The grade point average used to determine eligibility shall be based on grades earned at each three-week eligibility block. Code of Conduct - Students with more than 3 detentions or one in-house suspension will render a student ineligible for the subsequent three-week eligibility block. Regular attendance at practice is required. Any home suspension will exclude the student immediately.

Athletes and Academics * Students who are in athletics must maintain a 2.0 without any F grades. Grades are checked every three weeks. Students who are in danger of being ineligible may go to Homework Club for assistance. They are also encouraged to work with their teachers and attend intervention. * Coaches follow-up on grades and encourage students to seek additional help, and in some cases, provide assistance for the team athletes. * At the progress report periods, counselors meet with students who are failing and review credits and provide academic counseling.

Title IX Requirement Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. Three-Part Test Used to Measure Compliance Compliance can be assessed in any one of three ways: Providing athletic participation opportunities that are substantially proportionate to the student enrollment. Demonstrating a continual expansion of athletic opportunities for the underrepresented sex (typically female). Accommodating the interest and ability of the athletes.

SHINING MOMENTS IN LMS ATHLETICS Our middle school has had multiple years of championships and has produced athletes that we are proud of. Our teams have participated in tournaments and have received first place. Our boy’s soccer team has earned the title of league champions going undefeated in their 2015 season. Our girls “B” Basketball team has achieved that same honor. Each year LMS hosts an Athletic Awards Night where all athletes are recognized for their participation and each coach selects team athletes for special recognition.
