Fiona Carden Director of Learning & Innovation at CoLab Exeter Introduction to Fiona Carden Director of Learning & Innovation at CoLab Exeter

What is Connect5? Connect 5 is a mental health promotion training programme developed from a unique collaboration between Public Health England (PHE), Health Education England (HEE) and Manchester University. It is designed to increase the confidence and core skills of front line staff so that they can be more effective in having conversations about mental health and wellbeing, help people to manage mental health problems and increase their resilience and mental wellbeing through positive changes. https://youtu.be/yWPWmAHrTfE

Connect5 Framework An evidence based training programme. A workplace wellbeing tool that uses CBT and the 5 ways to wellbeing to help people support their own emotional health and wellbeing as well as enabling them to have conversations with other people.

Bio-psychosocial model The biopsychosocial model of health and illness is a framework developed by George L. Engel that states that interactions between biological, psychological, and social factors determine the cause, manifestation, and outcome of wellness and disease.

Who is it for? “Connect 5 is relevant to  a wide range of frontline staff who work with people at risk of poor mental health. It provides participants with skills and competencies that build confidence in having conversations about mental health and wellbeing in their routine practice. It uniquely optimises opportunities for building a culture of self-management, prevention and improved access to psychological approaches for mental health and wellbeing.” Gregor Henderson, National Lead for Wellbeing and Mental Health, Public Health England

How is it delivered? 1 x ½ day – Introduction 2 x 1 day – Interactive, practical learning days designed to enable participants to learn the use of a range of tools including; exploring intensity questions, scaling, problem solving and thinking styles. These can be delivered as 3 stand alone sessions but feedback does suggest that the most benefit is gained by attending all 3 sessions.
