COLLEEN BASINGER 7, 8TH GRADE ART

A little about myself: BS--James Madison University MIS--Virginia Commonwealth University 2 children, wife, soccer & lacrosse Mom, Scouts, Working artist, exhibit in Middleburg

What will your child be learning in Art? Studio Skills in the production areas of: Drawing, Painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, photography, graphic design, and mixed-media. Studio Techniques depending on the media which are many! Art History many different artists, styles, and eras. Critique-talk and write about the art they create & see.

How will your child be graded? Composition/Creativity Skills: lesson specific Techniques of the media Craftsmanship: how neat & clean their work is; motivation & intentional work ethic Each criteria is worth 100 points. The HPMS Art Department only uses the following grades to grade: A+ 100 B- 82, 80 D 66 A 97 C+ 79 D- 62 A- 92 C 76 F 59 B+ 89 C- 72 B 86 D+ 69

Retakes? Extra credit?? Stay after? HPMS Art Policy is that students may NOT retake an entire project due to the nature of the class, it’s process driven. Students MAY restart a project before the half-way mark during a project. We will also announce “no start-overs” on certain projects because their preliminary work (sketches) is the start over. HPMS Art Policy is that we do not accept Extra Credit. Students are always welcome during Resource and may stay after depending on the teacher. I am by appointment.

EXHIBITIONS LCPS Rotating Exhibit-currently at INOVA Lansdowne until October. HERITAGE CLUSTER FINE ARTS NIGHT-winter HPMS monthly exhibits in the lobby.

What are ways you could help out: Donations of squirty soap, tissues, and wipes without bleach are always appreciated. Donations of old games that have pieces like Scrabble, jacks, marbles, dominoes, etc are great. Donations of clean, used take-out containers are great for palettes.
