Daily Bellringers & Warm up

Bellringer 9/14 & 9/15 Pea plant clones are giving different amounts of water for three-week period. The first pea plant receives 400ml a day. The second pea plant receives 200ml a day. The third pea plant receives 100ml a day. The fourth pea plant does not receive any extra water: the plant only receives natural ways of receiving water. The heights of the pea plants are recorded daily. Identify the variables

Bellringer #2 One tank of gold fish is fed the normal amount of food once a day. A second tank is fed twice a day. A third tank is fed four times a day during a six week study. The fish’s weight is recorded daily. Identify the variables

Warm up 1. 16.45 m =_______________ cm 2. 39.56 g =_______________ mg 3. 10.5 g =_______________ dkg 4. 3.54 mg =_______________ dg 5. 28.6 g =_______________ hg 6. 910 m =_______________ dm 7. 0.006700 kg =_______________ cg 8. 1488 cm =_______________ hm 9. 42.68 L =_______________ kL 10. 2.78 cm =_______________ km

When you have completed your quiz, staple your notebook paper to the back and put in plastic bin. Start back taking notes from class website 8thmatter.weebly.com “States of Matter”

9/7 & 9/8 Bellringer Define the following terms Matter Mass Volume Inertia Physical properties Chemical properties

9/7 & 9/8 Warm up What does the mass of an object tell you about its inertia?

Bellringer 8/30 & 8/31 SpongeBob Clean Pants SpongeBob noticed that his favorite pants were not as clean as they used to be. His friend Sandy told him that he should try using Clean-O detergent, a new laundry soap she found at Sail-Mart. SpongeBob made sure to wash one pair of pants in plain water and another pair in plain water with the Clean-O detergent. After washing both pairs of pants a total of three times, the pants washed in the Clean –O detergent did not appear to be any cleaner that the pants washed in plain water. What is the independent variable? What is the dependent variable? What are the constants? What is the control experiment?

Warm Up 8/30 & 8/31 When Graphing: The Independent Variable belongs on What are the Five major parts that must be included on every graph ? 1 2 3 4 5 When Graphing: The Independent Variable belongs on which axis? _______________ The Dependent Variable belongs on

Warm Up What do you call pure substances that cannot be broken down chemically into simpler kinds of matter? What is the simplest particle of an element that retains all the properties of that element? What is Matter?

Warm Up Monday 8/15 Atoms of the same element can have different numbers of neutrons; these variations of an element are called:______ An atom’s Atomic Number is equal to that element’s number of :______________ An element’s Atomic Mass is equal to its number of _________ plus its number of __________ .

Warm Up Block 8/16 - 8/17 How many electrons can fit in the first energy level (shell) ? In the second ? (Think of Bohr Models) Superman wants to know: How do you determine the number of neutrons in an atom of Krypton (Element #36) ?

Warm Up Thursday 8/18 Draw a model of a water molecule, labeling the elements, the bonds, the proper # of electrons in the outer energy levels, and the (+) and (-) ends of the molecule What type of bond connects two water molecules?? Where are the molecules connected together at (what elements from each molecule??)

Warm Up for Friday 8/19 Compare Adhesion and Cohesion Give an example of each:

Warm Up Monday 8/22 What are the Horizontal rows on the Periodic Table called and what do they tell us? What are the Vertical groups called and what do they tell us?

Warm Up Block 9/6 – 9/7 How well do I think I did on Quiz? Score/70 How prepared was I for Quiz? 1 – 10 Did I read Chapter 2 in full? Did I study my notes? Will I do anything differently next time?

Warm Up Thursday 9/22 List the 3 forms of Passive Transport: List the 3 forms of Active Transport: Explain the difference between diffusion and osmosis. Are they active or passive? Explain the difference between endocytosis and exocytosis. Are they active or passive?

Warm Up Friday 9/23 Pre-Lab for Day # 2 Questions 1 thru 6

Bellringer A teacher was curious if a money reward would influence performance on a test taken at the end of the course. Half the students were offered $5 for receiving an ‘A’ on the test, the other half were not offered money. Identify the variables.

Warm Up: 8/22 & 8/23 What is the difference between a inference and a prediction? Inference: Prediction:
