History Collection Air Force historians deployed to SWA since 1990 In 2005 AF/HO initiated “Airmen at War Series” Studies and tabular data on file with AF/HOH and AFHRA http://www.afhra.af.mil/airmenatwar/ Monthly contingency chronologies at deployed locations (@1500) Historian with each expeditionary wing on a rotational basis Document case files (MISREPs, SITREPs, email, etc.) Operational focus and tabular data (appendices) Home station histories Training and deployed stats via reports and interviews Ongoing studies; driving factors are ops tempo, time, and manpower

Heritage Collection Committed to the preservation/protection of USAF history, heritage and culture of the Post-9/11 campaigns to tell our story to future generations AF/HO, NMUSAF, and Major Commands prescribe in-theater historic property collection policy Two-way process of locating and discussing relevance of historic properties; coordinating accessions and transport Capturing accounts of participants for context: the human story Ongoing collection of Air Force heritage provides a means of engaging with the cumulative history of the USAF by recounting events and people through material culture

Way Ahead New $2.0 million server upgrade project at the Air Force Historical Research Agency (Maxwell AFB, AL) Deployed histories and document collection available for further studies AF/HO and AFHRA continual review of collection processes Interpret and present to the public the USAF’s history and culture—keeping its story visible, accessible, and alive!
