Welcome to Kings Norton Girls’ School. Year 7 Parents as Partners

Our aims at KNGS: A system of assessment which: Is easy to use Understood by girls and parents and staff Provides the opportunity for students to demonstrate and review their progress Guides teaching and learning

Targets will be set from KS2 tests. However: Base line testing is carried out If base line data shows results lower than KS2 tests, interventions can be quickly put in place. The DFE gives information on the progress students are expected to make, this will change annually because it will be based on the cohort. Joy Am I right in thinking therefore that only a certain % will achieve A grade 5 ect and that will stay the same annually?

Year 7 Catch up Students who in KS2 tests were not ‘secondary ready’. Reading, spelling, numeracy, MIDYIS tests to assess strengths and areas to develop. Reading Buddies, Lexia, Magic Spell, Maths breakfast club, writing club, Fast Forward.

KNGS Progress Path A student who achieved KS2 score of 100 would be expected to achieve a grade 5 in year 11. Their target grade will be 7.5 in Year 7, 8.5 in Year 8 etc We have tracked back from expectations for year 11 to establish what a student should be demonstrating in relation to knowledge and skills in every subject in year 7 , 8, 9, 10, 11 to achieve each grade and incorporate the National Curriculum within this. Students are given this information in accessible language as needed during a course.

COTTA: Currently On Track to Achieve If your daughter’s COTTA Grade matches expected national expected progress this will be coloured amber. If her COTTA grade meets her aspirational target this will be coloured light green. Outstanding progress represents a grade or more above that expected and will be coloured dark green. Rotations Where girls are not on track to achieve their given grade they will be supported to close the gap.

Reporting Progress 19th December 2018 Interim report 9th April 2019 Interim report 17th January 2019 Parents evening 9th July 2019 End of year report

Homework In KS3 a whole evening’s homework should be approximately 20 minutes per subject for a maximum of 3 subjects, plus additional time at weekends, a maximum of 1 hour an evening. Develops ability to work independently Develops organisation, planning and time management Support learning which has taken place in lessons Revision, retention and recall – vital for exams

Advice in planners

Homework timetable in planners Science: students will be set 3 homeworks per topic which will be set by each of their teachers and this could be set on different days according to their place in the scheme of work “I haven’t got any homework” .
