Detachment 840 Cadre: 3 Officers, 2 NCO’s, 1 University Admin Detachment longevity: 55+ years at Texas State 2 Cross-Town agreements: Wayland Baptist and Texas Lutheran Average Det size: 100 Cadets

Applicant Eligibility Do I meet eligibility criteria? Minimum 2.5 CGPA (Collegiate GPA) Freshman status with no collegiate GPA Good moral character In most cases, a minimum of three full academic years must remain in the Cadet’s academic degree program to qualify.

AFROTC Eligibility Full time student during AFROTC when on contract except final semester Age: Less than 30 prior to commissioning (waiver up to 35 for prior service Less than 28 prior to commissioning for rated positions Pass a DoDMERB physical Maintain Height & Weight Standards Have no more than 2 dependents (spouse included) Citizen within 12 months of attending Field Training

Scholarships Eligibility Requirements 3.0 GPA 1240 SAT (Verbal + Math) or 26 ACT (Math + Reading) Greater than 90 on Physical Fitness Assessment Receiving a scholarship results in a contract. Once contracted, you are COMMITTED to completing your degree in the allocated time and accepting an Air Force commission. BOTTOM LINE: Meeting eligibility requirements does NOT guarantee a scholarship

Air Force ROTC Requirements Leadership Laboratory (LLAB) Minimum 80% attendance per term Absences (no make ups for unexcused absences) Physical Training Three PT Sessions offered, must attend two per week Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) twice, in Fall and Spring

Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) Aptitude test similar to SAT or ACT Measures Aptitude in 5 Areas: Verbal Minimum 15th Percentile Quantitative Minimum 10th Percentile Pilot Navigator Academic Aptitude 5 Hours Long Over 400 questions in 12 sub-categories Authorized to take the test two times Higher score trumps previous 6 month wait between each attempt Must pass prior to Field Training

Making the Cut for Field Training FY14 – Top 60% nationwide selected for FT Approximately 1590 out of 2650 nominated Average Cumulative GPA = 3.38 Average Fitness Score = 96.8 Selection is based on the whole-person concept Bottom Line: Meeting average standards does NOT guarantee selection into Field Training

Post Field Training Cadets who are not on scholarship……Decision Time! CONTRACT during the first week of the following fall semester. Once Contracted…you are COMMITTED to completing your degree in the allotted time and accepting an Air Force Commissioning after graduation.

Air Force Commitment Occurs for two reasons: 1. Activate a scholarship 2. Successfully complete Field Training You agree to: 1. Complete your degree within allotted time 2. Accept commission as a 2nd Lt in the AF AF agrees to: 1. Commission you as a 2nd Lt in the AF 2. Bring you on duty for at least 4 years

Air Force Commitment Most cadets incur a 4-year commitment after graduation ONLY incur additional time after training Pilots incur 10 year active duty service commitment CSOs, RPAs, ABMs incur a 6 year commitment

Cross Town Schools Cross-town Cadets Must submit cross enrollment forms to TX State Admissions Office and be admitted to TX State as a “special student” All cross-town cadets must pay associated TX State parking fees or other University requirements. All cross-town cadets will submit an unofficial transcript to Det 840 per semester or quarter
