Le WORK AND ENERGY Show!!!. Work is defined as a force that moves through a distance. The equation used to calculate work is: W=f d If the 60kg cart is.
Last lesson  Learn what “work” is!  Learn how to calculate work  See who can do the most work!  Power.
1 Power 2 Work has to do with a force causing a displacement. Power is the rate at which work is done. How fast is the work being done. Work has nothing.

Work Done Work is done (or energy is used up), when a force moves an object. d F The amount of work done depends on the distance the object is moved. The.
Work Work done is a measure of the energy transferred. E.g. when lifting a pencil I do work against the earth’s gravity force, energy has been transferred:

In this section you will use the equation to calculate work done use the equation to calculate kinetic energy solve simple energy interchange problems.
Potential Energy Review of Work Work is the product of force and distance. W = Fd If work is done on an object its energy is changed If the work done.
Work F The force, F, pushes the box for a short distance. This causes the box to start moving!!!!!! I just don’t have any energy  Whoa!!! Now I do!!!

Presentation transcript:

Baseline (Aiming for 4): Calculate the gravitational potential energy store of an object from its weight and height. Further (Aiming for 6): Calculate gravitational potential energy from an object’s mass, the gravitational field strength and height. Challenge (Aiming for 8): Explain and account for all energy changes during falls or increases in height, including heating effects.

Why is walking up stairs or a steep hill so difficult?

Work done = force x distance Calculate the work done for these examples: A toy car is pushed 1m with a force of 5N A tug of war team pulls the opposing team 5m towards them with a force of 6000N The engine of a car can apply 8000N of driving force. The car drives 1200m Challenge: A bus drives 2.3km with an engine that can provide 22000N of driving force. A freight train can apply 180kN of force and drives 32km

How high? A woman climbs the 8,848m to the top of Mount Everest. She has a weight of 680N. Calculate the work done in climbing the mountain Challenge: A jumbo jet of mass 400,000 kg cruises at an altitude of 10,700 m
