Case – RFID and sensor solutions in constructions May 2011 Text

Denmark’s leading contractor We cover the entire country with 26 offices and a head office Professional breadth 5,000 employees 26 local offices in Denmark Broad in-house competences Solution-oriented Knowledge-based 10 international offices

Focusing on international business We currently have 10 offices and around 1,100 employees outside of Denmark A few of our many projects abroad: steel and assembly work on the Hardanger Bridge in Norway construction of a commercial and fishing port on the east coast of Sri Lanka installation of offshore wind turbine foundations off the English coast Our focus is shifting more towards the possibilities on the international scene We currently have 10 offices outside of Denmark located in Bangladesh, China, Faroe Islands, Greenland, India, Norway, Qatar, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam We have around 1,100 employees working abroad Our business areas abroad account for over 30% of our revenue

Construction and Civil Engineering Our competences include: Carpenters, concrete and bricklayers Infrastructure and earthworks Marine works and offshore foundations for wind turbines We have built and refurbished: Centre for Healthcare Education in Nuuk, Greenland Fishery College in Vestmanna, Faroe Islands Harbours on the Maldives Wastewater project in Sri Lanka Management: Overview and focus on the objective Optimum use of time, budget and human resources

The most digital housing you can get today? TALER: POL For hvis vi ikke får en fælles standard og DBK... ... Så bliver dette den mest digital bolig man kan få i Danmark

Multilevel Urban Living Housing Concept Basic Living Active Living Multilevel Urban Living Urban Living Balanced building 31/12/201831/12/2018 Balanced Building has been made by Velux and MTH in co-creation. BB is a pentHouse and a platform that show an energyproducing home can be made. Focus is moreover on liveability i.e. lots of daylight and a supurb indoor enviroment. Five housing models that match target group preferences on price, quality, style and structure

RFID and sensor solutions in construction Fabrication Logistics Construction Wired Facility Mgmt Service Wireless Wireless Wireless Wireless MTH-BIM FM-BIM Muligheder i brug af RFID og sensor teknologi: Logistik – digital data opsamling til brug senere i processen Kvaltitets styring – måling af fugt og temperatur i materialer Facility Management Dokumentation – sammenhæng mellem den fysiske bygning og med den digitale model Potential through the use of RFID and Sensor Technology: Logistics - digital data collection to further use in the process Quality Assurance - monitoring humidity and temperature in products Documentation - connecting the physical building with the digital model

Challenges with RFID and sensor technology Experience Materials limits the wireless exchange Too expensive with wireless sensors throughout the construction Insight Missing assurance that the wireless sensors can be seen in operation Wireless sensors have limited lifetime Several standards Conclusion Reading distance can be a problem Water and metal interference the RFID-signal It may be necessary with multi-frequency readers Udstyret skal kunne anvendes på en byggeplads Hårdføre enheder Let at håndtere på pladsen Let at bruge systemet Mangler byggepladser til afprøvning Læseafstand kan være et problem Vand og metal forstyrrer signalet Det kan blive nødvendigt med multifrekvente læsere Installation af central serverstruktur

Cases - RFID and sensor technology in constructions Examples: 2008 - Hobro – passiv tags in prefab concrete elements 2009-2010 – Bjerringbro – active tags monitoring humidity and temperature in concrete floors 2010 – Esbjerg – active tag monitoring humidity and temperature in exterior wall 2010 – Frederiksberg - active tags temperature in concrete constructions 2010 – Ørestaden - active tags monitor and logs temperature in concrete constructions 2010-2011 – Aabenraa - active tags monitor and logs humidity and temperature in membrane and roof structure with insulation 2011-2012 – Copenhagen - active tags monitor and logs humidity and temperature in exterior walls.

Cases and insight (1/2): RFID in precast concrete elements Phone as a reader Passive tags, and short reading distance From RFID-data to information which becomes knowledge which can be communicated Communication tool between the various parties RFID and Sensor technology in floor constructions Professional reading Active tags and long read range, but water and metal limits Knowledge for logistics and the next step in the process Water and metal limits: a need to test the cable connection

Cases and insight (2/2): RFID and sensor technology - monitor and logs Professional RFID and sensor solution Monitoring change in humidity and temperature with both short and long term Logistics and opportunity for data capture to process eg QA

Perspectives with RFID and sensor technology What the near future offers... Value chain with smart tags that can measure temperature, vibration, pressure - and can remember….. Knowledge sharing and communications in the value chain Data Management and classification of objects New roles and competencies in the process £ $ Conception Design Procurement Preparation Execution Utilization
