What Is Satire? An attack on someone or something by making it look RIDICULOUS or worthy of scorn.

Satire is both HUMOROUS & CRITICAL But also aims to improve HUMANITY.

Things To Think About While You Read WHO or WHAT is being satirized? HOW is satire being used? What method(s)? What is the overall TONE of the satire?

Who / What? Institutions People Controversial topics Church, Education, Government, Marriage, etc. People Celebrities, Politicians, Yourself, etc. Controversial topics BP Oil Spill, Healthcare Plan, Technology, etc.

There are several popular methods that can be used to create a satire… HOW? There are several popular methods that can be used to create a satire… Irony- Verbal irony is also known as sarcasm. Farce- extravagant, and improbable situations, disguise and mistaken identity Parody- make fun at an original work by means of humorous, satiric or ironic imitation Caricature -often exaggerates a person’s peculiar features or style.
