Welcome! Teacher: Mrs. Perez Class: Adv. Math Course 1 (6th Grade) Room: 420 Have a seat and have on your desk: your schedule, a pen or pencil, and a highlighter.

A Little About Me This is my 14th year at Mater Academy. My education background includes… My Hobbies/ Interests are… My family includes….

Communication lperez@materacademy.com Regular notifications will be sent via the “Remind” system. Students and parents are both advised to sign up using the provided instructions in order to receive class information via text or e-mail. The best way to reach Mrs. Perez with questions is through e-mail: lperez@materacademy.com ** e-mail communications will not be answered after 6 pm on weekdays, and are not guaranteed on the weekends.

Classroom Rules I will be in my seat by the bell and prepared for class. I will complete all assignments on time. I will keep hands and feet to myself. I will respect the opinions and views of the teacher and other students. I will not chew gum, or groom myself in class. I will always do my best!

Consequences First Time- Verbal Warning Second Time- Timeout, Loss of Privileges, and/or Student/Teacher Conference Third Time- Detention Fourth Time- Parent/Teacher Conference Fifth Time- Referral to Administration Detention slips can and will be administered to students by the teacher and/or other staff member based on any violation of the school discipline plan.

Supplies Needed: The following supplies must be brought to class everyday unless otherwise instructed: 1 composition notebook which will be used for notes, vocabulary, and bell ringers. 2 #2 pencils loose leaf paper Duo-tang folder with Springboard lessons (4 are needed, 1 per 9 weeks, 1 red, 1 blue, 1 green, 1 yellow) 1 highlighter 1 expo dry erase marker 1 red pen. ** Supply Check will be 8/31 (A) and 9/1 (B). ** Students MUST have access to the Internet after school hours to complete the iXL Learning program. The media center will be available before and after school, so students may complete their work if internet is not accessible at home. ** Also look at Per Period Supply List for a chance to earn a No Home Learning Pass.

When you enter the room everyday: Please enter quietly Turn your homework into the homework bin- Any homework not placed in the bin before the bell ringer- will not be collected, or graded. Take out your materials Review the agenda Begin bell ringer assignment When complete, please sit quietly and wait for the next set of instructions to be given. **If you have a Question or need to talk to me about something…write me a sticky note, leave it on your desk and I will pick it up after the bell ringer activity.

If you are late: Please enter quietly If you have a note, please place it on my desk. If you do not, please see me after class. Sit in your assigned seat Take out your materials and wait for the my instructions. **You will be issued a detention after two unexcused tardies.

During a class discussion: There will be NO pencil sharpening. PLEASE participate I love to hear your questions and comments but remember to be polite and wait your turn. Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion If your question is off topic, write it down and ask me at the end of class.

At the end of every class: Please do not pack your stuff until I have instructed you to do so. Make sure you clean up around your desk. Throw any paper or garbage out as you leave the room. I dismiss you, not the bell!!

Class Sharpener The sharpener is available for use with pencils only, no crayons or colored pencils are allowed. You may only sharpen your pencil before class starts, or after the discussion has occurred and students are at work.

Bathroom Use You may NOT use the restroom in the first 15 minutes of class or the last 15 minutes of class. Bathrooms are for emergencies ONLY. If you want water, you may bring a water bottle to my classroom. Starting September 2nd, each student will have two bathroom passes for each nine weeks (unless in the case of a medical condition, which should be evidenced by a doctor’s note).

Summer Assignment You were given a summer assignment. Assignment due 9/7 (A) and 9/8 (B). It will count for two grades and there is a Divisibility Rules quiz that goes with it. If you have not done it, or need a copy, there can be one found on my website at matermiddlehigh.org.

How will you be graded? A = 100 - 90% B = 89 - 80% C = 79 - 70% Several methods of assessments will be given such as notebook check, quizzes, exams, projects, class work, home learning, iXL mastered skills, and participation. Students are expected to complete all assignments within the given time period. Please be aware that incompletion of an assignment will result in a letter grade “Z”, which is equivalent to an “F”. A = 100 - 90% B = 89 - 80% C = 79 - 70% D = 69 - 60% F = 59 - 0%   *All assignments that are done in pen or are incomplete will automatically receive at least a one letter grade deduction. ** Work format (see Handout) will count towards assignment final grade. Tests: 30% Quizzes: 20% Class Work: 30% Home Learning: 20%

Assignments and Home Learning You will have homework every day. Homework is due the following class unless noted otherwise. HOMEWORK IS MANDATORY! I will not accept any late work. Exception : Excused absences. If you have an excused absence you have one week to make up your work. Extra Credit : I DO NOT give extra credit.

If you are absent: Work completed without an absence being excused will receive a Z until the absence is excused. It is the students’ responsibility to ask for any work missed. Make- up work should be completed in the same amount of time that is missed. This is to say, if you miss class once, all work should be made up the next class. If you miss two days, work should be made up within two days, etc. If the excused absence involves several days, schedules can be arranged to make up the work.
