11. What happened to the top Nazis 11. What happened to the top Nazis? Describe what occurred at the trials at Nuremberg. Answer: The top Nazi leaders, 22 in all, were each placed on trial. Many Nazi leaders were convicted of war crimes; they were found guilty. A few had managed to escape and flee to Argentina. Sentences were carried out for each person on trial. 12. Who went to these trials? Alfons went to the trials. 13. What country does Alfons go to next and why? Alfons travels to Canada.

14. What did Helen want to do about these crimes of prejudice now that she has survived? Teach / instruct others regarding the horrors inflicted upon the Jewish people to make certain the Holocaust never happens again. 15. How did Helen and Alfons meet? Helen heard about Alfons’ story and she decided to meet him. She was hoping to get a better understanding of his point of view.

Their purpose was to inform and educate others. They went to colleges and universities to spread the word that people should not blame all people from Germany, but to ensure that this tragedy would never happen again. People cannot be allowed to forget the travesties that occurred with Hitler’s regime. People lashed out at Helen (and Alfons) because they thought she had forgiven the terrible acts that Alfons and others like him had committed during the war.
