Introduction You need to include: An interesting opening that relates to the topic Three points you will discuss in your essay.
Body Paragraphs You need to include: A topic sentence Support for your opinion Details can include: facts, examples A concluding sentence tying your examples to your topic sentence
The Conclusion You need to: Restate your opinion Give a summary of your three points * Never introduce new ideas in the conclusion
Tips Read the essay question twice. Make sure you stay on topic. Have a clear opinion (support one side). Have three points to support your opinion. Have specific examples for each point. Organize your writing with topic sentence, support and a conclusion. Proof read your work when it’s complete – spelling doesn’t have to be perfect, but it must be understandable.

How to Peer Edit 1. Read through a classmates’ essay. 2. Create a T-chart commenting on the areas your partner did well and those that need improvement. 3. Comments should include the following topics: The essay is related to the topic Clear opinion (choose only one side) 3 points to support opinion Specific details/examples for each point Organized – easy to follow Spelling/grammar is understandable
