The perks of being a wallflower Unit three: passion vs. passivity

Consider the essential questions… How do we gain control over our own lives? What factors influence whether or not we get what we want?   How is life affected by our decision to be passive or active in a situation?

What is a “coming of age” Novel? In genre studies, a coming-of-age story is a genre of literature and film that focuses on the growth of a protagonist from youth to adulthood. Coming-of-age stories tend to emphasize dialogue or internal monologue over action, and are often set in the past. The Catcher in the Rye is another example, even though Holden intended to delay adulthood.

What are the perks? Define “wallflower.” What are the actual perks of being a wallflower? What are the cons to being a wallflower? On which side do you see yourself?

Where I’m from…writing exercise Pittsburgh is a beautiful city. There are many things to do in Pittsburgh. The Steelers are really good and they are important to this town. Steel is also important to this town. There are many bridges in Pittsburgh too. Pittsburgh has the most bridges out of any other city in the world. Don’t be passive. Show me; Don’t tell me. Re-write a description of Pittsburgh that does the following: Eliminates passive verbs (is, are, was, were, be, being, been) Utilizes strong, vivid imagery that reflects what defines Pittsburgh Eliminate the word “Pittsburgh” altogether; or only use it once.
