Declaring Area or Major/Minor MSU policy: Declare Area/Major by 45 credit hours Declare Minor by 60 credit hours (Second Major MAY substitute for Minor) Student CANNOT register if Area or Major or Minor is not declared by these points. If you are an Advisor for a Major, be sure your Advisee has declared a Minor. Change of Major/Area/Minor Forms at Registrar/Forms

The terms Bulletin and Catalog are used interchangeably University Bulletin: Located on Registrar website (and linked on Advising site) Student MAY choose any active Bulletin Bulletins expire after 7 years Every August check for changes in Bulletin Know “Academic Degrees and Programs” including University Studies requirements Know programs within your department Know pre- and co-requisites, etc. The terms Bulletin and Catalog are used interchangeably
Advisor Holds – myGate Teaching/Advising A student cannot register until his/her Advisor Hold is released. Advisor releases student’s Advisor Hold ONLY after student is advised. To release an Advisor Hold , go to myGate / Teaching Advising / Student Search OR Advisee Listing; click Release Advisor Hold. Academic Advisor, Chair, and Dean can release Advisor Holds.
