Goals for today’s session... Introduce the components of the Title I schoolwide plan Introduce the Title I schoolwide plan as a tool to facilitate raising student achievement Determine the most relevant data to use Analyze the systems within your school Introduce Root Cause Analysis Find resources and strategies that will help target your priority concerns Review the submission process for your Title I schoolwide plan

What is a Schoolwide Program? A schoolwide program is a comprehensive reform strategy designed to upgrade the entire educational program in a Title I school; its primary goal is to ensure that all students, particularly those who are low-achieving, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement on State academic achievement standards.

Schoolwide Flexibility LEAs cannot be asked to: Specifically identify eligible Title I students for targeted Title I services. All students are eligible to participate; Identify individual cost and services as supplemental; Provide services through a particular methodology or instructional setting.

Schoolwide Plan An eligible school/charter operating a schoolwide program must develop a schoolwide plan. Schools that would like to go Schoolwide must develop a Schoolwide program plan during 1 year period unless: The Local Educational Agency (LEA), not the State, determines in consultation with the school, that less time is needed to develop and implement the plan.

Schoolwide Four Components Parent and stakeholder involvement Regular monitor and plan revision Comprehensive needs assessment Schoolwide plan strategies

Schoolwide “Optional” Strategies Strategies to improve students’ skills outside the academic subject area, Preparation and awareness of opportunities for postsecondary education and the workforce, Schoolwide tiered model to prevent and address problem behavior, Professional Development, Strategies for assisting preschool children with transition from early childhood programs to elementary programs, Dual and concurrent enrollment programs.

Benefits of Schoolwide Flexibility Coordination and Integration Accountability Unified Goals

How to Start the Process of Becoming Schoolwide Complete and send “Intent to plan form” found in DFP webpage. If the school/charter has less than 40% poverty complete the narrative attached to the intent form. Send “Intent to plan form” electronically to shegraves@pa.gov Access to the School Level Plan takes about 1 week.

Title I Schoolwide Plan The due date for Title I Schoolwide Plans will be September 1, 2018. Priority/Focus schools must have their School Improvement Plans (Title I Schoolwide Plans) submitted by June 30, 2018. For any Priority/Focus school that may be moving from a targeted program to a schoolwide program, the date for submission can be delayed until September 1, 2018, with approval from the Office of Federal Programs. Title I schoolwide plans are housed in the Comprehensive Planning web application. The Title I schoolwide plan will have a new workflow which will include “Checking your plan for issues” and selecting a “Submit” button.

Getting started with the Comprehensive Planning WEB APPLICATION

“WHAT GETS MEASURED GETS MANAGED.” Needs Assessment “WHAT GETS MEASURED GETS MANAGED.” ~ Peter Drucker Kelly to review Needs Assessment

Accomplishments/Concerns Accomplishment = the data that shows progress towards closing the achievement gap Concern = the data that causes the most worry regarding closing the achievement gap Begin to determine why this data is concerning and where you actually want to be.

Align and Prioritize

Time for Action! Select a Systemic Challenge to be the Goal of an Action Plan Identify the specific data source and target you want to achieve (Indicators of Effectiveness) Identify Strategies that have a significant probability of meeting the Action Plan Goal Identify all of the “to-do list” steps that will be needed to implement the Strategies: each “to-do list” step is an Implementation Step

Time for Action!

Indicators of Effectiveness

Action Planning Descriptions of proven interventions / best practices Descriptions tell “how” goals will be implemented Strategies provide significant probability of attaining goal Strategies designed for systemic implementation Maria to speak on the specifics of the strategies that should be selected? (Per what is written in law?)

Action Planning Consider accessing these pages to obtain helpful information. Click “Import” if you wish to select a strategy. Be sure to also describe HOW the LEA expects the strategy will address the Action Plan Goal

Once Strategies have been identified, Action Planning Once Strategies have been identified, planners should design an implementation plan —a management tool that will guide the implementation of the Action Plan Strategies.

Each “to-do list” step is an Implementation Step. Action Planning An implementation plan is comprised of all the “to-do list” steps needed to implement the Strategies. Each “to-do list” step is an Implementation Step. Create/Import an Implementation Step

Implementation Steps As this is the to-do list, the following are key questions that should be addressed for the implementation of each strategy: Communication - How will strategy be communicated to staff and broader school community? Implementation - How will the strategy be put into place (PD, new process…)? Monitoring - How will implementation be monitored to maintain fidelity? Evaluation - How will the effects of the strategy be evaluated? Timeline - What is the timeline for each of the steps? Be sure your timelines cover your current school year.

Effective School Planning Consistent cycle: Planning, Implementation and Evaluation No fixed end SUSTAINABLE RESULTS
