COMPLIANCE AND ENFORCEMENT Joint Law Enforcement patrols are done in collaboration with other law enforcement Institutions Boat patrols are done – weather permits Relations with Justice Forums and SAPS at Dwesa, Hluleka, Amathole and Pondoland is improving and this has been through MPA awareness programmes Warnings, fines and court cases have been effected

RE-ZONATION & EXPANSION OF MPAs Dwesa-Cwebe rezonation – After several meetings and engagements held with Dwesa/Cwebe communities together with other interested/affected parties, with all processes the Dwesa/Cwebe rezoning was finally gazetted Opening for fishing started on the 1st of December 2015. Operation Phakisa – Amathole Off-shore expansion. Public participation done with a positive spirit from the MPA users
CHALLENGES Shortage of MPA staff is still a big challenge in all 4 MPAs Insufficient funding for management of MPAs especially that Dwesa-Cwebe will have to be monitored for the re-zoned areas for fishing Poaching with fish trawlers still a challenge within MPAs Sand mining around our MPAs Dwesa-Cwebe rezonation challenged by Community legal advisers Boat launching sites
