Accelerating Protection for Kauri Purpose is to accelerate protection for kauri by: Establishing a nationally coordinated, long-term approach to the management of kauri dieback disease Accelerating change – looking at new arrangements and driving critical improvements Refreshing direction of 2014 strategy Drivers for change: Implementing the Ministers’ decisions Evidence of disease spread and low levels of compliance Strategy due for review Agreement that changes are needed – the current model isn’t delivering sufficient protection “An NPMP shows how serious we are about protecting kauri. It is by far the strongest piece of regulation available and will ensure mandatory hygiene practices, consistent regulations that apply nationally, stronger governance and access to funding.” Hon. What happens next? ROUND ONE ROUND TWO ROUND THREE Round one (25th June - 16th July): Developing the future direction for managing kauri dieback disease Round two (August/September 2018): What could the National Pest Management Plan look like? Round three (October/November 2018): Ways to action the National Pest Management Plan ROUND ONE Round one will help get the big picture view for managing kauri dieback disease. It will inform how the National Pest Management Plan can best support the work to protect kauri. ROUND TWO Round two will be where you can tell us your ideas on what could be in the National Pest Management Plan. ROUND THREE In round three you can have your say on ways to action the plan. Timing for these consultations is indicative and will be firmed up soon.
