Mrs. Bruce will teach math and science, and Mrs. Singleton will teach reading, language arts, and social studies. Students will change classes for Block One and return to their home rooms at 10:35 for Block Two. We are really excited and look forward to working together as a team to better educate your children!

Grades Students will receive letter grades A, B, C, D, or F in Reading, Language, Spelling, Math and Conduct. Students will receive S, N, or U in all other subjects (Satisfactory, Needs to Improve, or Unsatisfactory).

Accelerated Reader-AR This program is designed to promote a love of reading and emphasize comprehension. Children learn their reading ranges and take quizzes on their own levels on line. To meet their goals, children need to keep an 85% average on tests. Your job is to encourage them to read, and to question them about the books they have read. Students must take AR tests at school between 7:45 and 3:00. You can keep up with their progress on line from home.

Wednesday Folders Students will bring home a folder each Wednesday night. Review the work for the week, but return the graded papers and anything else in the “Return to School” side. Observe conduct grade for the week. Sign and return the folder on Thursday.

Homework Please check the homework folder each night. Sometimes there will be unfinished class work to complete, and you need to see how well your child is understanding our daily work on a regular basis. You will receive a study guide each week with the words we are learning. I will highlight words missed on the spelling pretest to study. Most tests will be given on Thursdays and Fridays. Please listen to your child read a library book or a chapter of a book 2 or 3 nights a week to work on fluency and comprehension.

For each color below green, 5 points will be deducted from the weekly grade. In Mrs. Singleton’s class, we use color cards to monitor behavior. Students change from a cooler color down to a warmer color when they do not follow our classroom or school rules. Students may change back a color when they exhibit exemplary behavior. I will record the “color” that they land on at the end of the day. For each color below purple, 5 points will be deducted from the weekly status points.
