What is a trademark? The name, brand, logo, or symbol that is used by and represents an organization or institution and distinguishes it from others To claim nationwide trademark protection, a mark needs to be registered with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). TMR

University Licensing Office of Licensing Programs …serves to protect and promote the Universitys indicia (marks, names, and logos). Through partnerships with manufacturers, Penn State encourages consumers to support student scholarships and activities through the purchase of officially licensed merchandise.
