Video Production 2 A Course Introduction

Welcome! I’m Mr. Specter Hope you all had a good summer! This is Video Production 2 If anyone is in the wrong room please say so now!

New! This course is all new this year. It’s unlike the old Video Production 1 course.

Some ground rules How many of you think you will be out in the halls practicing shots and goofing off with your friends? Come on, let’s see some hands!

Good! For any of you who were expecting to do that I have a pile of request forms to see the guidance counselor. Please drop this course early to avoid the rush. If anyone wants to transfer out, I won’t stop you.

Others For those who want to learn how to do some really cool things, and are willing to work hard;; Welcome! This will be a challenging class. We will cover a great deal about the broadcasting industry. You will be expected to develop high-level skills that are used in broadcast.

Quality Hands-On Experience We will be covering things for the district. We will be feeding programming into the area VIA Verizon FIOS. Hopefully Comcast will follow soon. We have some older high-end equipment. I’ve been told newer hardware will follow. We hope to be producing and airing HD sometime soon. All new equipment will be HD capable.

Areas We Will Cover Engineering/Technical Business Creative History Employment Legal Considerations

Help Wanted We will be asking all of you to help out. Most projects will be outside of normal school hours. It will be difficult to earn an “A” in here without doing some outside work. Everyone will be expected to learn and be able to do every position. You’ll all have your favorites, but in the real world we don’t always get what you want.

Teamwork In most of my classes everyone is expected to do their own work. Here you must work as part of a team. Teams will be assigned. To a large extent your grade will depend upon each other’s performance. Just like the real world. If you’re not serious about what you do in here, I still have those forms.

Course Content There is a syllabus on-line at www.mrspecter.com You will also be able to check your grade on that site, as well as on Edline. Edline will hold your actual grade, but my site is updated more often. Grading rubrics will be available for most projects. Much of your grade will be dependant upon what I observe, as well as the finished project.

Equipment We currently don’t have a great deal of equipment. If you misuse what we have your grade will drop. Just like in the real world. If you misuse or abuse equipment you can lose your job.
