Literacy Skills By Month September Letter identification and sounds Aa-Tt Beginning sounds Rhyming and Syllables Correctly holding a pencil Writing first name Identifying the title, author and illustrator in a story October Letter identification and sounds Uu-Zz A and E word families (example: cat, hat, hen, pen) Identifying beginning, middle and ending sounds in words Reading three letter words (CVC words) Correctly writing all capital letters Naming the characters in a story * Tara West thematic read alouds with integration of science and social studies (all year long). *Sight Words: four words per week, all year long. Please see the last slide.
