Digital Access Question 1

Quick Overview AIM: conduct a survey to research and report on the access that students on our campus (Varsity College: Pretoria) have to the internet. EXPECTATIONS: Going into this task, I expected our students to have a great deal of digital access, knowledge and the devices used to access the internet, considering that we are in an era that is technology driven. FINDINGS: I will present my findings using a bar graph in the following slides.

Can you easily access the campus WiFi? What do you mostly use the internet for? On a scale of 1-10, 10 being excellent, how would you rate your computer skills?

Answers to assignment questions. What did the survey show you in terms of accessibility? This survey definitely showed me that everyone (students), in this day and age can somehow access the internet, whether it is through their cell phones, campus computers or personal laptops, using data bundles or WiFi, they can easily access the internet. Did all students have access to the internet outside of campus? Yes, 58.82% of the students had internet access outside of campus, most of them using their cell phones for access. Did socio-economic factors play a role in your findings? Yes, in terms of access, students cannot always afford to buy expensive or have WiFi at home or student accommodations, though majority did have access outside of home, it is often very expensive and limited.

Cont. Did everyone have the same level of skill using technology? No Was there a correlation between the level of access available and skills? Yes, students with the most access to technology had higher skills. I think that this is because, the more time you spend doing something, the more experience you get using it.
