Introduction Seeking purpose in life is the universal pursuit of all men: “Why was I born?” “Why am I here on earth?” “What is my reason for living, or for continuing to live?” Sadly, most people flounder in life and never fully come to grips with life. Sadder yet many Christians fail to grasp the true purpose of life. If we fail to find the true purpose of life we will depart this life “empty-handed” destroying our souls and perhaps the souls of others in the process.

Living With Purpose Philippians 1:19-26

Life’s purpose for the majority of men Obtain money/material possessions: Matt. 8:20; Lk. 12:13- 21; 1 Tim. 5:8; Jas. 4:13-16; 1 Tim. 6:10-12, 17-19; Matt. 6:25- 33; 1 Tim. 6:6-7; Eccl. 5:13-14; 5:10-11; 2:18-19 Experience as much pleasure as possible: Lk. 16:19, 25; 2 Tim. 3:1-5; Heb. 11:25; 1 Jn. 2:17; Matt. 19:3-10; Heb. 11:26 Achieve fame: Matt. 23:5-7, 33, 38; Lk. 22:24, 26; 1 Cor. 1:11-12; Acts 5:1-10; Mk. 12:42ff; Lk. 18:1ff; Acts 9:36ff; Matt. 18:2-4; Phil. 2:1-5 Obtain and wield power: 2 Sam. 14:25-26; 15:1-6, 13-14; 18:9, 14-17; 1 Cor. 1:10-13; Col. 2:8, 18-23; Acts 15:1; 3 Jn. 9; Acts 20:30; Phil. 2:5-8 Living With Purpose

Life’s purpose for the majority of men Three critical observations: Materialism/pleasure/fame/power are real dangers: Choke out word: Matt. 13:22 Lead to position seeking: Matt. 20:20-28; Acts 20:30 Lead to wrong attitude toward lost: Lk. 15:7 Carry a very high cost! 3 Jn. 9; Prov. 23:29-35; Matt. 16:26 Their pursuit is vain and stupid! Eccl. 2:9-11; 2 Pet. 3:10b Living With Purpose

Life’s true purpose Paul understood it! Phil. 1:21; Eph. 1:3-11; Col. 1:12-23; 2 Pet. 1:1-4; Phil. 1:21; Gal. 2:20 “every spiritual blessing” “forgiveness” “redemption, forgiveness of sins” “chose us” “riches” (unsearchable) “reconciled” “holy” “fellowship of the mystery” “holy, blameless, irreproachable in His sight” “without blame” “boldness, access, confidence” “all things that pertain to life and godliness” “adoption as sons” “qualified to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints” “exceeding great and precious promises” “accepted in the Beloved” “delivered from darkness” “partakers of the divine nature” “redemption” “translated into kingdom” “escape the corruption that is in the world through lust” Living With Purpose

“For to me, to live is , and to die is .” Conclusion No need to wander around looking for the true purpose of life. God has the grandest purpose for us in life; far grander than anything we could ever dream up on our own! His purpose gives our lives an eternal purpose. Why not make your purpose in life and God’s purpose for you one and the same?! “For to me, to live is , and to die is .” Philippians 1:21
