What is it? Continental Drift - Earth’s continents were once joined in a single landmass, and gradually moved, or drifted apart. People thought this for.

Presentation transcript:

CONTINENTAL DRIFT THEORY According to the continental drift theory, the earth was one large continent called Pangaea. It is believed the supercontinent Pangaea began to break up about 225- 200 million yrs ago, eventually fragmenting into the continents as we know them today.

PANGEA

CONTINENTAL DRIFT THEORY If u look at the continents carefully u can see how the continents look as if they would fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. South America would slot in very neatly to Africa. There is also other evidence that in the past all the continents were joined together. For example identical fossils have been found in different continents thousands of kilometers apart

CONTINENTAL DRIFT THEORY A chain mountain in the USA matches mountains in Europe Some rocks in Britain were formed in a desert For these things to be possible the continents must have moved. The continents have very slowly moved spread apart.
