Managing ‘Changing Urban Land Use’
Presentation transcript:

How would you try to stop this happening again?

Key management strategies In an attempt to prevent flooding humans have tried to manage rivers. They can use the following strategies: ‘Hard Engineering strategies’ - these require major alterations and changes to the river and try to stop the river from flooding ‘Soft Engineering strategies’ - this is where limited alterations take place and flooding is more managed than prevented

Evaluation of management strategies Complete the A3 sheet, the following pictures may help !

1. Land-use zoning

2. Channel enlargement

3. Afforsatation

3. Washlands

5.River straightening

6. Levees or embankments

7. Dams
