The Life Cycle of our Star By Matthew Bahri and Aaron

The Stellar Nebula A stellar nebula is a cloud of superheated gases and other elements formed by the explosive death of a massive star. Stellar nebulae emit brilliant waves of infrared light generated by dust particles within the cloud. All stars start of as nebulas.

Yellow Dwarf- are Sun The sun is more than a million times bigger than the Earth and is 332,900 times weightier. The sun is made of hydrogen, helium, oxygen, iron, and carbon. However, its main mass is hydrogen at 75%. The sun is now in the middle of its life cycle, and will explode in about 4-5 billion years In the few hundred million years before the explosion, it will swell up and become a red giant as big as the Earth's orbit. It will therefore swallow the Earth.

Red Giant Red giants are stars that have exhausted the supply of hydrogen in their cores and have begun thermonuclear fusion of hydrogen in a shell surrounding the core. They have radii tens to hundreds of times larger than that of the Sun. However, their outer core is lower in temperature, giving them a reddish-orange hue. Despite the lower energy density of their core, red giants are many times more luminous than the Sun because of their great size.

Planetary Nebula In about 5 billion years, when the sun takes off its outer layers, it will create a beautiful shell of diffuse gas known as a planetary nebula. About 10,000 of these short-lived, glowing objects are estimated to exist in the Milky Way, although only about 1,500 have been detected; the unseen rest hide behind interstellar dust.

White Dwarf A white dwarf, also called a degenerate dwarf, is a stellar core remnant composed mostly of electron-degenerate matter. A white dwarf is very dense: its mass is comparable to that of the Sun, while its volume is comparable to that of Earth.

The Other Life Cycle Of A Star Massive Star Massive stars are born, just like average stars, out of clouds of dust called nebulae. When a nebula collects enough mass, it begins to collapse under its own gravity. The internal pressure created by this collapse is enough to trigger fusion of hydrogen deep in its core. When nuclear fusion begins, a star is born. Some stars become massive stars and some turn into average star.

Red Supergiant A red supergiant is an aging giant star that has consumed its core's supply of hydrogen fuel. Helium has accumulated in the core, and hydrogen is now undergoing nuclear fusion in the outer shells. These shells then expand, and the now cooler star takes on a red color. They are the largest known stars.

Supernova A supernova is the explosion of a star. It is the largest explosion that takes place in space.

Black Hole A black hole is a place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light can not get out. The gravity is so strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space. This can happen when a star is dying.
