Emission Impossible Brief to the Public:

Your mission should you choose to accept it is: (You can choose not to and earn zero points for the next 6 assignments, so make a wise choice) Brief the public on the effects of global warming and an outlook for the future by: Individually researching a greenhouse gas (nitrous oxide, CFCs, methane, or carbon dioxide) and preparing a written analysis Preparing a group written poster which includes a synoptic evaluation of climate change for your specific country and a proposal for action that outlines changes to be made in the nation’s policies that will mitigate climate change and greenhouse gas emissions Presenting this poster during a poster session to any Kealing students/faculty/parents

Responsibilities within the group Each group member will focus on one of the following greenhouse gases: Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, or chlorofluorocarbons If you are a team of three you can leave out CFCs Each group member will be responsible for the group written analysis that goes on the poster (4 different sections to be compiled) -

Expectations and Grading Group Contract- developed and signed by each consultant in the team. Contract should include all names of students and the greenhouse gas they have chosen, DUE AT THE END OF CLASS NO EXCEPTIONS!!! I would encourage you to exchange #’s and emails because you will have to work outside of class to complete the mission

GRADING 2nd Six Weeks This mission is about 75% of your 2nd weeks grade Other grades are based on work ethic, participation in class, and behavior There will be a written test on the material uncovered in the project USE YOUR CLASS TIME WISELY!!! EVEN IF THERE IS NO HOMEWORK ASSIGNED, IT IS UP TO YOU AND YOUR TEAM TO PLAN DUE DATES FOR YOURSELVES IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THE MISSION BY THE DEADLINE

Expectations and Grading continued 2nd Six Weeks Grades: Classwork Grade: Group Contract signed Classwork Grade: research notes Classwork grade: Rough draft of individual gas outline Lab Grade : written analysis for your group Test Grade: The Poster Lab Grade: A peer evaluation

The Final Poster: There are 4 major written portions: 1. Intro and thesis 2. Written Analysis of Data 3. Current Policy Analysis & Evaluation 4. Initiatives and Solutions

Rubrics The rubrics for all aspects of the project are located in your mission packet…DO NOT LOSE THEM You are responsible for turning in assignments with the rubrics that have been given to you Failure to turn in at least one rubric with all names on it, on the due date will result in a 10 point deduction PLEASE REMEMBER THESE PAPERS COME FROM TREES!!!

What is an annotated bibliography? This is the format that your citations and research notes should be in You will cite each source using MLA format Under each citation you will evaluate the usefulness of the information you have cited and describe specifically which debating point it is useful evidence for Initially you will take notes on notecards (one side will be the source and the other will be the notes on how this source is helpful your research) The final annotated bibliography is typed 1-2 page paper

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED? Sign and turn in contracts by end of period Exchange contact information with your team as you cannot rely solely on class time to complete this mission For HW navigate the interwebz for useful information for your gas I have uploaded a list of links that are good starting points for research, but you should look for other CREDIBLE sources
