Civics

What is Civics? The study of how public decisions are made, of issues that are important to the public, and of the rights and responsibilities of citizens

Why do we study civics?

“Youth must be given a “voice” and a role to play in the making of decisions that affect them” Ontario Coalition for Children and Youth

Civics helps you become an INFORMED, PURPOSEFUL and ACTIVE citizen Civics helps you become an INFORMED, PURPOSEFUL and ACTIVE citizen. Therefore, the study of civics encourages you to:

Learn about how our government works

Identify your personal beliefs and values about participating in society

Practice basic citizenship skills

Examine the challenges of sharing, and working, with different views and opinions

Think critically about what active and responsible citizenship means to you
