Survival Sorting Exercise 12 EB8 You are a one celled plant type cell called Euglena and you are in trouble You need to prioritise What organelle or parts do you shut down first and what do you keep for survival Use the arrows to move through the slides Template Designed by Eugene Brunet : Eugene@etc3.org

What is the most important? Which Parts of The Cell Do You Need For Your Survival ? Choose what to sacrifice Click any item to change its column What do you keep What will you sacrifice What is the most important? Mitochondria Starch grains Lysosomes Vacuole Vesicles Nucleus Chloroplasts Flagellum Chromosomes Nucleolus Smooth ER Nuclear membrane Rough ER Free Ribosomes Centrioles Cell Membrane Cytoplasm

Teacher Notes Purpose To help students talk and explain reasoning. The best results can be achieved if they think individually for the start and then have to “argue the case” with eachother in groups. Activity Give students the list and ask them to prioritise Possibly by identifying 5 things to shut down Then get in groups of 4 to keep their cell alive. Click on any individual item to move to the other side Once 5 things have been identified state that conditions are worse and you need to shut down even more. Extensions Ask questions about how long your cell would survive without !!!
