Christina E. Rodriguez of Career KABOOM (www.careerkaboom.com) PITFALLS Social Media profiles, postings, pictures and rants. Academic pressures – do you focus on GPA or gaining experience? Too much freedom. Choosing the “right” major. Spreading yourself too thin. Forgetting why you’re there. Social pressures. Feeling overwhelmed/lost. Not managing your time efficiently. Running out of money. Can you make the right decisions at the right time? Christina E. Rodriguez of Career KABOOM (www.careerkaboom.com)

When You Arrive to Your Campus GO TO ORIENTATION! If you like any speaker, introduce yourself to them (we remember you). Go to the Career Center & find out how to get an on-campus job. Get your résumé ready! Create your account to start setting up advising appointments, RSVP to workshops and meet employers. Take an assessment to receive some guidance on career options associated with your major. Christina E. Rodriguez of Career KABOOM (www.careerkaboom.com)

Actions You Can Take RIGHT NOW! Lock down your privacy settings on all social media accounts – set very tight permissions on photo tagging by others. Research the career resources of campuses/programs that you’re interested in. Establish a Linkedin (LI) account using LI’s own video resources for students. Start working on your résumé – focus on accomplishments vs. duties. Set up an informational interview with someone in the field you’re interested in – use virtual tools if you have to. Take an early career assessment on O*Net’s Interest Profiler. Grades matter – don’t coast now, offers are usually contingent. Be a ROCK STAR at work – it will pay off. Christina E. Rodriguez of Career KABOOM (www.careerkaboom.com)
