Essential Questions How does the duality of man, and human nature in general, influence our personal determination? What power does the individual have in the determination of his fate or in the destinies of others? Is mankind condemned to tragedy? Why or why not? How does suffering illuminate understanding? Is the modern-day tragic hero possible?

What are the elements of a tragic hero?

Othello Act ___ Quiz Summarize the events of this Act. You must list at least 5, and no more than 9, specific plot points. In order. Find one passage that illustrates the character traits/development of a character below. Be ready to explain HOW the passage illustrates character: Othello Iago or Desdemona Cassio or Emilia or Roderigo or Brabantio What are the 3 most significant passages of this Act? Be ready to cite, and defend WHY they are significant. The passage must, in some way, contribute to the meaning of the work as a whole. If they contribute to plot or character development, please state how. The passages may also be the same as the character passages. Keep in mind the MOWW, however, and do not solely stick to the character! Take the passage back to Shakespeare’s point. You can also say something like, Through the character blah blah blah Shakespeare POWER VERB MOWW. I am going to read aloud 3 passages. You will need to identify the device used, and explain the impact on the reader/audience, as well as how that contributes to Shakespeare’s purpose.
