National 5 Physical Education Factors Impacting on Performance Tactics

What is a tactic? A tactic is the way in which you carry out your particular strategy or game plan.

Factors to consider when planning your tactics 1. You or your teams’ strengths. Do you have an outstanding player that you want to get on the ball? Are you great at shooting 3 pointers? Is there a particular shot that you can play very well?

Factors to consider when planning your tactics 2. You or your teams’ weaknesses. Is there a weaker player in your team that you feel needs more help or cover? Is there a particular shot or skill that you can’t perform well?

Factors to consider when planning your tactics 3. Your opponents strengths Do they have an outstanding player that you want to stop from performing well? Are they strong at shooting from around the basket? Do they have a strong smash?

Factors to consider when planning your tactics 4. Your opponents’ weaknesses Do they have a weak player that you may look to exploit? Do they struggle to play a specific shot? Are they particularly slow?

Factors to consider when planning your tactics You may also want to consider: The score in the game The time remaining in the game The weather conditions

Why might you change your tactics? There are many reasons why you might change your tactics in an activity. Can you think of any?

Why might you change your tactics? Your original tactics might not be working as you expected. Your tactics will change depending on if you are winning or losing with 10 minutes to play. The weather conditions may have changed or you may have swapped ends at half time and now have the wind against you.

What impact can your tactics have on your performance? Your tactics can have a huge impact on your performance level. If you select appropriate tactics based on your opposition, you can best take advantage of your strengths and best exploit their weaknesses.
