EPA R10 Emergency Responses This Quarter Green Lake Chemical House, Seattle, WA SR 530 Slide, WA Roseburg Tank, Roseburg, OR 12/31/2018

Green Lake Chemical House Seattle, WA – April 7 Notified March 25 by King County regarding improper storage of chemicals at residence in densely populated neighborhood. Warrant served April 7 to temporarily relocate elderly residents and begin assessment/removal. WA CST and Ecology provided support for field hazard categorization of over 2,000 containers of unknowns. Provided 24/7 support for needs of relocated elderly residents. 12/31/2018

Green Lake Chemical House cont. Chemicals included many corrosives, poisons, oxidizers – many unlabeled in rusting containers Warrant extended because of large number of containers. Completed and residents returned April 17. 126 overpack drums and 45 cy boxes shipped for disposal. 12/31/2018

Roseburg Tank Roseburg, OR – April 10 Notified April 9 of citizen complaint regarding a partially buried 20’ long tank oozing asphaltic substance next to Parrot Creek which empties into S. Umpqua River. OSC Heister mobilized from Albany response to remove contents (asphalt and water) and tank under OPA. 12/31/2018

SR 530 Slide Oso, WA – March 28 WA Ecology and FEMA requested EPA R10 technical assistance through ESF-10 at the State Road 530 Landslide incident in Oso, Washington. EPA OSCs deployed to FEMA Region X in Bothell and ICP in Arlington. Provided water quality sampling/analysis and contaminants of concern analysis support. 12/31/2018
