Acid Rain The term “acid rain”… refers to rain or precipitation that is highly acidic. was first used in 1972

Causes The causes of acid rain are human-made emissions such as… electricity generation factories motor vehicles coal power plants

These emissions are… Released into the atmosphere, Carried by wind to different places, The gases dissolve in rainwater and create acid rain.

Before, factories used short smoke stacks to release the gas. These made too much damage locally. They started using taller smoke stacks to release the gas higher. They thought the problem was solved but the gases are now only carried further away, which resulted in more distant ecological damage.
