Year 7-9 Library Reading Challenge Aims of the challenge: To encourage everyone’s enjoyment of wider reading To keep up reading momentum and challenge To reward students for wider reading

The Challenges Bronze Silver Gold Read 12 books of your choice After you finish a book come to the Library to get it signed off by the Library team Silver Read 9 books – each must be from a different genre Each time you finish a book come to the Library to get it signed off by the Library team. They will ask you about the genre Gold Read 9 books from the categories below and write a short review of each Categories= Carnegie Medal, Blue Peter Children’s book award, Whitbread Children’s book award, female Victorian writer, anthology of poetry, play, biography, travel book, magazine/newspaper, classic text, own choice Each time you finish a book come to the Library to get it signed off and for feedback on your review Books do not need to be from the school library but we do have a good selection to choose from

Rewards Bronze Reading Award badge and certificate + 5 commendations Silver Silver Reading Award badge and certificate + 10 commendations Gold Gold Reading Award badge, certificate and book token + 15 commendations So this is a good way to earn commendations too!

How to achieve your award Get your pocket planner signed. When you have completed all the reading for an award, see Mrs Watson or Mrs Maltby in the library. N.b. there is an error on the planners. Use the space for the Gold Award for the Bronze Award. If you reach the Gold award, we will give you a new sheet.

Ideas for Reading There are reading lists for year 7-8 and Years 9-11 on the English area of the Intranet. These are also displayed in the library. Books from the reading list have a yellow dot on their spine on the library shelves.

Note to Year 7 / Spy Fiction Fans The library now have a display of spy fiction, should you wish to complement your work on the Spy Fiction unit with some reading around the genre.

Book Amnesty Please return any books belonging to the English Department that you may have “lurking” at home to the “Book Amnesty” box in the English corridor (top floor of Newport) Please don’t put library books in the box; return them to the library
