Primary Sex Characteristic -female (vagina) -male (penis)

Puberty - The time when changes occur that cause boys and girls to become men and women, physically - girls (12 years of age) - boys (14 years of age)

Boys- testes produce testosterone External Changes -Hair growth (face, underarms, body, around penis and testes) -Penis and testes become larger -Muscle development (shoulders broaden) -Larynx becomes larger (causes voice to deepen)

Internal Changes -Testes begin to produce sperm (spermatogenesis) -Glandular secretions produce semen seminal vesicles, prostate, cowpers gland (bulbourethral gland)

Girls- ovaries produce estrogen External changes -Breast development -pubic and underarm hair growth -hips widen

Internal Changes -Vaginal walls become thicker -Uterus becomes larger and more muscular -Vaginal atmosphere becomes more acidic -Menstruation begins (1st - Menarche end - Menopause)
