Shuttle Communications INCO is responsible for: Audio TV S-Band, UHF/SSOR, FM, Ku-Band communications Instrumentation (MDM, DSC, PCMMU, MADS, Payload communication, etc.) 12/31/2018 Jennifer S. Williams
Ku-Band System Preferred method of communication Used during Orbit phase During Rendezvous, used in Radar mode During other operations, used in Comm mode OCA uplinks (PMCs, PFCs, file uplink/downlinks, ….) Recorder dumps TV Virtual spacecraft The sband system is primary, but the ku band is the preferred method of communication. This is because during sband body blockage (namely the nose and tail) and antenna swaps, the kuband system provides coverage. Ku band also provides a larger amount of bandwidth, allowing TV and OCA operations, It sits inside the payload bay, and is only used during the orbit phase. During rendezvous with station (or a satellite such as hubble), it is used in the radar mode. At other times, it is used in the comm mode for oca, recorder dumps, tv downlink, and virtual spacecraft operations. 12/31/2018 Jennifer S. Williams
