Old King Brady catches the criminals and returns the money to its rightful owner and George and the Pinto girl are then wed.
Technology in Chased Over Three Continents Technology is featured prominently throughout the story. The technology of the time is a major part of the story as the criminals are chased around the world using things like carriages, trains, and boats. 1891 - Technology is integrated seamlessly into the Victorian lifestyle. Parallel to Around the World in 80 days (1873) COTC was published 23 years later and is loosely based on it. Both stories are started by a dare. Time of COTC – Technological advancements seen as more common place. Technology moves the story and its characters forward.
Technology and the Story-Line The technology is used as a venue almost and adds to the cat and mouse game that detective work inherently includes. Technology leads to an expanded setting and a quicker story pace which allows for an exciting narrative. Quick and ever present access to technology to take them where the writer saw fit. Just like in Around the World in Eighty Days, OKB is able to move forward quickly using it, but also experiences setbacks as a result of it.
Views of Technology Technology is overall portrayed as a positive. Technology in Chased Over Three Continents is used as an impartial tool that plays no favorites, and best serves those who can use it most cleverly. Technology is shown as a double edged sword. The criminals in the story benefit greatly from the ease of access to travel and weapons, so that any man with bad intentions could go anywhere and seriously hurt someone.
Illustrations Features no technology. Shows the classic fight between good and evil. Sensationalistic and eye catching. The lack of technology in the cover shows that technology and travel is almost secondary to the characters and the story.
Final Thoughts The technology in Chased Over Three Continents is heavily travel-based and it plays a prominent role in the story. However, plays second fiddle to the cunning of Old King Brady. Technology and science push the story forward and allow for the diegesis of the story to be on a much larger scale.
