The Most Beautiful Lines in Literature Sophomore Opening Days Activity

Instructions In an attempt to push you to appreciate literature and focus on writing style, today you are going to get up, move around, and read dozens of passages from some of the most insightful writers that ever put their thoughts on paper.

Instructions Ultimately you are going to respond on the same sheet that you talked about the importance of literature, but while you walk around and initially read the passages, you might just want to bring your phone. I would suggest that as you’re reading the passages, take pictures of ones that you find particularly well written, interesting, insightful, etc…

Instructions Eventually you are going to pick your three favorite passages. Respond to the passages (individually, not as a group) by explaining what message(s) you get from the passage and why it resonates with you. I’d expect your responses to be at least a short paragraph for each passage. You do not have to write down the whole quote, use the author’s name/work of literature to clue me in to which passage you’re referring to. Make sense?
