Phase Changes – Changes of State SI. Kinetic Theory of Matter All matter is made up of atoms and molecules that act as tiny particles. These tiny particles.
Heat and Temperature All particles are always in motion, even in solids. Kinetic energy= The energy of motion. Heat= a measure of the total kinetic energy.
3.1 Matter and Energy Kinetic Theory of Matter: – All matter is made of atoms – Atoms always in motion; hotter = faster, faster = hotter – Heavier particles.
Main Points All matter is made up of invisible particles Particles have spaces between them Particles are moving all the time Particles move faster when.
What is Energy  Energy is the ability to cause change. Change in ANYTHING  There are two general types of energy Kinetic energy Potential energy.

Energy is the capacity to do work or produce a change. Think of the energy of a substance as the total of the kinetic & potential energies of all the particles.

Presentation transcript:

Kinetic Theory of Matter All matter is made up of molecules and atoms that are always in motion. The higher the temperature, the faster the particles move. At the same temperature, heavier particles move slower than lighter particles.

Law of Conservation of Matter Matter cannot be created nor destroyed, just changed from one form to another. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, just transferred from one form to another. Law of Conservation of Energy
