I Got Accepted! Start working with your Lead Ask yourself a few questions about instructing: What class? What’s your purpose? What’s your method??

What You Need Is… Schedule List of activities, assignments, and printouts Graduation Requirements Training Syllabus Here’s who’s teaching what

Working As A Team… Start with ideas Making Classes: Build off of each others’ ideas What is important to the students? What will you leave behind?

Classes Be specific and to the point Use examples Own your class and content Use videos and activities Interact with your class Quality, not quantity Be Creative!

The “Hello” and “Goodbye” Introduce instructors and purpose Start professional: Set the behavioral and expectations standard high Clearly define graduation requirements Goodbye Congratulate them on a job well done Be specific in praise Encourage future activities-even for those who didn’t graduate Feedback Like/didn’t like Improvements

Class Discipline Keep them involved Respect both ways Refer back to your “Grad Reqs” Keep emotions under control Don’t be afraid of hard questions Don’t give attention to bad behavior You’re in charge: act like it!

Evaluations Be brief and specific Choose your battle Be specific in behavioral corrections Have two witnesses Eye contact Don’t threaten Don’t let them talk back Try to end on a positive note

To Fail or Pass? Basic question is: Inform cadet: Discuss together: Have they fulfilled the graduation requirements? Discuss together: Discuss with Senior Mentor, Project Officer, and Commandant Academic Attitude Uniform Participation Inform cadet: With Seniors Be specific Show from graduation requirements Eye contact Encourage further participation

Senior Mentors There to support instructors and students There to assist in cadet evaluations Keep them informed Get feedback throughout the week Use them as a resource You have to reach out

End of Activity Make class info available Have a time for feedback Get them to think How will they use this information? Congratulate your cadets-be specific Give them a final word (hint hint)
