Weekly Agenda Monday: MobyMax – Math Tuesday: Distributive Property and other Properties Wednesday: Evaluate when… Thursday: Factoring and a Quiz Friday: MobyMax – Fact Fluency

Distributive Property To multiply a number by a sum of two terms, you can multiply that number by each term and add the two products. a(b + c) = ab + ac 3(7 + 5) = 3*7 + 3*5

Distributive Property 5 ( 6 + M ) 9) -2 ( -6 + S ) -5 ( 6 + M ) 10) -5 ( -5 + W ) 3 ( 5 + T ) 8 ( 4 – Y ) -8 (4 – B ) 2 ( 3 + 2K) 2 ( -3 + 2R ) - 2( 6 + F )

Commutative Property The sum of two numbers is the same no matter which order is used to add them. a + b = b + a 3 + 7 = 7 + 3 Also applies to multiplication. A * B = B * A

Associative Property The sum of three numbers is the same whether you group the first two numbers or the second two numbers. (a + b) + c = a + (b + c) (3 + 7) + 5 = 3 + (7 + 5) Also applies to multiplication. (3 * 7) * 5 = 3 * (7 * 5)

Tuesday Simplify and Combining Like Terms.

Let’s try to simplify: 6T – 3T 5A + 6 – A 8Y + 14 + 10Y – 2 6R + 8S – 4 – 4R +2S + 8 3W – 6X + 2 – 5W + 4X + 7 Find like terms, combine like terms, write the simplified expression.

Combine Like Terms (Simplify) 5R – 4R – 7R 8G + 9G – 4G 5R – 4R – 7R + 8G + 9G – 4G 9B + 5B – 6B 8H – 3H + 4H 9B + 5B – 6B +8H – 3H + 4H + 7

Wednesday Evaluate when…

Combine Like Terms (Simplify) 5R – 4R – 7R 8G + 9G – 4G 5R – 4R – 7R + 8G + 9G – 4G 9B + 5B – 6B 8H – 3H + 4H 9B + 5B – 6B +8H – 3H + 4H + 7

Thursday

Factoring 5(2B + 4) 5(2B) + 5(4) 10B + 20 Find a common factor of 10 and 20 = 5 So 5(2B) + 5(4) 5(2B + 4)

M7A1 Quiz -28 Evaluate when X = 3 18 -88 2x – 50 2x + 6
