Presentation transcript:

Supervisor: David Morgan Mechanical analysis of an athlete’s tibia to determine stress fracture risk locations Melanie Franklyn Supervisor: David Morgan Associate Supervisors: Bruce Field (Mechanical) and Barry Oakes (Anatomy) Scout film 67% level 50% level 33% level 23% level Cross-sectional images Anterior border Results: 1. Distal tibia more prone to stress injury. 2. Stress fractures predicted on the anterior border. 3. Still unclear why the 33% and 50% levels are significant. Need Finite Element Model to demonstrate this. Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering Postgraduate Student Research Forum 2001
