WHAT IT MEANS TO BELIEVE IN JESUS IMPOSSIBLE THE POWER OF BELIEF: WHAT IT MEANS TO BELIEVE IN JESUS

Misunderstanding What Belief in Jesus Christ Really Means Belief in the facts about Jesus and God is not New Testament belief.

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21)

22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ (Matthew 7:22)

23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ (Matthew 7:23)

People purposely, deliberately limit what their faith encompasses.

5 This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. (1 John 2:5-6)

People are misled and don’t really understand what it means to trust Jesus.

What did Jesus BELIEVE about reality to be able to do what he did? Jesus did not trust in the flesh.

63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life. (John 6:63 NIV)

63 The Spirit alone gives eternal life 63 The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. (John 6:63 NLT)

Jesus incarnated his virgin birth. 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. (Lk 1:35)

Material circumstances do not determine outcomes!

Jesus did not believe in irreversible process 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either (1 Co 15:16).

17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. (1 Co 15:17, 19)

Jesus acknowleged that spiritual forces of evil are real.  23 Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.” (Mt 16:23)

Two Consequences of Not Trusting Jesus: Shock at the Judgment Eternal Separation

13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:13)
