BSPES Uttar Pradesh Maulik Nagri February 2016

Current Update Background Project Partner since 2014 Girls only school operating in Jattari in Northern Uttar Pradesh (close to NCR region) School set up by Paliwal family; school management now supported by the family’s second generation BSPES registered with Indian Government (80G of IT Act and FCRA) and USA (IRS section 501(c)(3)) Current Student Count dropped from 748 to 701 Drop in Secondary School students offset by rise in Primary School Students [P-17 of PP] Management enforced policy to drop students with low attendance rates [P-2 of PP] BSPES pro-active about best practices in education Provides extra-curricular activities and “human values” education” Seeks actively “higher education” and “employment” opportunities for girl students passing grade 12 BSPES concerned about “lack of English” skills valued in higher education and jobs Taking pro-active steps: Set up an English lab Consider hiring teachers from out of town

Proposal School management cited “teacher turnover” as alarming Hard to find quaified teachers locally Wage disparity between BSPES versus private and government schools Current teaching staff though motivated entrenched in legacy teaching practices Recommend INR 200,000 covering academic year 2015-2016 for teacher training and remuneration

Financial Statements In 2015-2016, BSPES is seeing drop in fee income, due to reduction in student count in secondary schools For 2015-2016, BSPES sees increase in salaries, as because of increase in salary and teacher count Partly based on Asha for Educations’s recommendations, BSPES changed its auditors and instituted new internal controls in 2015-2016
