Naomi, her husband and two sons lived in the town of Bethlehem in the promised land.

When a famine came to the land there was not enough food for everyone When a famine came to the land there was not enough food for everyone. They did not want to leave their home, but they knew that God would be with them wherever they lived so they moved to Moab where there was plenty of food.

Naomi’s sons grew up and married women from Moab Naomi’s sons grew up and married women from Moab. The wives’ names were Ruth and Orpah. For sometime, they lived very happily. Then, Naomi’s husband and both sons died leaving Naomi, Ruth and Orpah alone.

When Naomi learned that the famine had ended in Bethlehem, she decided to return there. Ruth and Orpah walked part of the way with her. Then Naomi told them to return to their mothers’ homes. Orpah did, but Ruth said, “Where you go I will go. Your people will be my people and your God will be my God”. So Naomi and Ruth traveled together. Naomi and Ruth knew God would be with them wherever they went.

They arrived in Bethlehem just as the harvest began They arrived in Bethlehem just as the harvest began. Ruth and Naomi needed food so Ruth gleaned in Boaz’s field. Boaz was very kind to Ruth. He told her to stay in his field and not to glean in any other fields. He would make sure that she was safe and that she and Naomi had enough food to eat. Boaz admired Ruth because she always took care of Naomi.

Later, Boaz fell in love with Ruth and wanted her to marry him Later, Boaz fell in love with Ruth and wanted her to marry him. Before they could be married Boaz had to buy the land that had once belonged to Naomi’s husband. To make a sale legal in those days, one person would take off a sandal and give it to the other. When Boaz met with the town leaders, the other man agreed to let Boaz buy the land so he took off one of his sandals and handed it to Boaz. After this happened Boaz and Ruth were married.

God blessed Ruth and Boaz with a son. They named the baby Obed God blessed Ruth and Boaz with a son. They named the baby Obed. Naomi lived with Ruth and Boaz and helped care for her grandson, Obed. When he grew up, Obed became the father of Jesse who would be the father of David who would become king of Israel. God had taken good care of Naomi and Ruth just as they knew God would do.
